Doug Wamble

Doug Wamble was born in Clarksville, TN, but lived in Memphis, from age 2 until he was an adult. His mother, Linda, was a pianist in their Southern Baptist Church, and his grandfather, Charles Spencer played the guitar and sang. Wamble was influenced by their music as well as the music of Memphis, including the Stax records sound, Elvis Presley, and the Delta blues. Originally a clarinetist, Wamble was always interested in the guitar-based blues music of Albert King, B.B. King, and Stevie Ray Vaughan. Upon hearing Charlie Christian's seminal guitar work with Benny Goodman, Wamble decided to explore the world of jazz guitar.

Doug has released two recordings on Marsalis Music/Universal records, a label headed by Branford Marsalis. Country Libations in 2003, and Bluestate in 2005. Doug has performed and recorded with Wynton Marsalis, Branford Marsalis, Cassandra Wilson and Madeleine Peyroux.

His guitar work has been featured on television and film soundtracks including the Ken Burns PBS documentaries such as "Unforgivable Blackness: The Rise and Fall of Jack Johnson", "The War", and the upcoming "Prohibition."
